Mavericks Notes

“I still like our team. I like how the pieces fit together. We just have to quit turning the ball over, get a little better defensively, and I still think we can beat anybody in this league.”

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Eddie Jones just can’t get it off his mind.

‘I keep saying I want to go through one of those stretches where we win 14 games like they did last year,’ Jones said. ‘I want to go through one of those stretches.’

The Mavs strung together winning streaks of 12, 13 and 17 games last season.

But, through 40 games this season, the best they’ve managed is two five-gamers and the recent surge of seven straight. Since then, the Mavs are 1-2, with losses marked by a rash of turnovers and defensive lapses. Read more

Mavs Hand Sonics 10th Straight Loss

Dirk Nowitzki scored 20 points, Devin Harris keyed a game-breaking run, and the Dallas Mavericks beat Seattle 111-96 Saturday night to hand the reeling SuperSonics their 10th straight loss.

Seattle, which last won Dec. 29 against Minnesota, trailed 39-34 with 7:09 left in the first half before the Mavericks used a 27-10 run to build a 22-point halftime lead.

Harris scored nine in the spurt and finished with 17 points.

Josh Howard added 17 points, Jason Terry scored 15 and Jerry Stackhouse chipped in with 10 for Dallas, which has won eight of nine. Read more

Mavericks’ main man bringing his ‘A’ game

“Everybody’s trying to keep a body on me and trying to make me put the ball on the floor.”

DALLAS — Dirk Nowitzki is admittedly a glass-half-empty kind of guy, so it’s hardly stunning that he shrugged off the effectiveness of the latest entry into his repertoire: a driving, left-handed hook that’s part old-school and almost impossible to defend.

The Mavs forward has gone to it at least twice in recent games. Against Detroit, the ungainly-looking 7-footer locked Rasheed Wallace’s ankles with a deceptively quick burst through the lane and finished by flipping the little lefty hook off the glass. Read more

Idle Dallas Mavericks won’t rest in shoring up defense

“We’re still a work in progress. We got to get this thing corrected on the road and get it corrected quickly.”

Clippers fall at the buzzer

“We had them. We definitely had them.”
