Woes on defense might be all talk MAVERICKS

“He can’t be on our case all season long; that just kind of wears on you over the long season. It’s time for players to step up and talk about what they see out there.”

Coach Avery Johnson quickly made it a lesson in defensive communication — specifically, the lack of it on the court.

During their current three-game losing streak to Indiana, Milwaukee and Washington, the Mavs have surrendered 44.7 points per game in the paint and the Bucks and Wizards each shot better than 50 percent.

Entering Tuesday, the 102.2 points a game ranked in the bottom seven in the league over each team’s past five games. Read more

Wizards spell disaster for Mavericks

“We just have to continue to fight.”

So much for some home cooking.

The Mavericks limped back home after two consecutive road losses, but Monday night against shorthanded Washington their defense remained out to lunch and, save for Dirk Nowitzki’s hot first half, their offense wasn’t much better.

Behind Caron Butler’s 35 points, Antawn Jamison’s 27 and a blistering 38-point third quarter, the Wizards ran the Mavs out of American Airlines Center 110-98 in front of 19,556. It was the Mavs’ first loss at home after a 6-0 start. Read more

Game Recap: Raptors 99, Mavericks 105

So the Raptors give up another win that they more or less, had in the bag. I’m just so full of mixed emotions because the first half was just about as well as the Raptors can hope to play the Mavs . via HoopsAddict.com

Mavs Rally Again, Beat Rockets 100-94

Devin Harris scored 22 points and converted a key three-point play in the closing minutes, and the Dallas Mavericks rallied from a double-digit deficit for the second straight game to beat the Houston Rockets 100-94 on Wednesday night.

Dirk Nowitzki shook off a slow start to score 18 points and grab 14 rebounds for the Mavericks, who overcame a 24-point deficit to beat Toronto on Tuesday night.

Yao Ming had 30 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks for the Rockets. Tracy McGrady added 15 points and 12 assists in his first game back from a sprained right elbow that kept him out a week. Read more

Mavs Come From 24 Down to Stun Raptors

Dirk Nowitzki had a season-high 32 points and a perfect ending in Dallas’ highest-scoring quarter of the season, helping the Mavericks put together a record-setting rally during a 105-99 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night.

Nowitzki hit four straight 3-pointers in the final 1:41 of the third quarter, when Dallas went ahead to stay after overcoming a 24-point deficit. The Mavericks finished their four-game homestand undefeated and are 6-0 at home this season.

Dallas made its largest comeback ever to win a game in regulation. The Mavericks also overcame a 24-point deficit against Toronto in February 2006, but won that game in overtime. The Raptors have never blown a bigger lead to lose, and now they’ve done it twice against Dallas. Read more
